Who are Meccanotecnica’s customers?
We operate in two markets that can sometimes overlap, that is the traditional book production where we supply some of the largest companies in the world like Lakeside Press in the US, Lego and Rotolitho Lombarda in Italy, and in digital print. In this sector we are working towards a position where Meccanotecnica is a full solutions provider.
What does this mean?
In the traditional market it is all about providing the particular machine that the customer wants and they understand the specifications that they need for production of a particular type of book. They understand the process completely.
The digital customer is different. They want is to provide a solution: ‘This is what we want to do, can you help?’
The development of a perfect binder is part of this?
Sewing machines it seems never die, so the number of machines on the floor around the world is more than enough to produce the demand for sewn books. We needed something more. At Printing United many of the people looking at Sirio did not know us, which is very positive. It means there is room for a new supplier.”
How does Meccanotecnica see the future?
In five years’ time, seeing machines will still be a main product. In ten years, maybe that will have changed. By then I’ll be retired. But we we still believe that the future of the book is our future.
