The DC646 is Duplo’s most popular multifinisher. Now there is a more automated and networkable version in the DC648.
Duplo is today adding a new model to its range of multifinisher devices
The DC648 slitter/cutter/creaser offers greater connectivity, productivity and capability than the DC646, the most popular machine in the range. The new machine is in addition to that device and while increasing output compared to the the DC646, the DC746 remains the most productive machine in the range.
The new model will handle 1.2m banner length sheets, stocks up to 400gsm and will deliver 40 sheets a minute of jobs with eight slits. The cutting module gains more durability thanks to a tungsten carbide edge and is good for 3 million cuts. An option feed table can be used for longer than standard sheets.
Productivity is not just down to speed. The DC648 replaces the CCD camera to read job data from a barcode with a much faster sensor system. Combined with internal software changes, this has a big impact on throughput. Instead of stopping to read the data for a job and so reducing speed from 30 to 22 sheets a minute on the DC646, the new model runs at 38 sheets a minute, compared to 40 sheets without using the feature.
Like other recent releases from Duplo, the machine is Industry 4.0 ready, so can receive set up and job data from the network and can in turn deliver data to an MIS or production workflow manager.

“The previous addition to the range was the DC618 in 2020, our smallest solution to help users transfer short runs to digital colour presses. The DC648 is our latest platform packed with new features to help a user grow their production volume of a wide variety of quality colour print, capturing a bigger slice of profit.
“Looking beyond treating running speed crudely as a key attribute, Duplo has added features to support Industry 4.0, as well as increased integration with EFI Fiery workflows where job set up on the Duplo can be driven directly from EFI Impose, creating a very efficient process that has many of the benefits of JDF finishing without the high costs of implementation.”
A reversible creasing rule helps deliver a cleaner finishing on Z cards and potentially simple carton blanks and will be ideal for book jackets and covers where flaps are needed.
The new machine is designed to be more robust than previous models slotting into a trend for Duplo to design for production oriented environments as digital print becomes more demanding and commercial print runs shorter. At the same time, the need for automation and operation by staff with less experience is accommodated through a touch screen interface with product templates to guide anyone through a set up and keep training requirements to an absolute minimum.
