Duplo believes new booklet maker is the magnificent 700

The new booklet maker will be a game changer for customers believes Duplo thanks to versatility, automation and especially ease of operation.

Duplo has sold its first DBM700, its newest booklet maker, and will install the machine early next month. The company is not identifying the customer but says the order was confirmed a day after a demonstration at its head office in Addlestone last week.

The DBM700 is a replacement for the DBM600 and for the first time in Duplo’s range introduces a squared spine function.

It becomes the flagship of its digital booklet maker range, but sits below the iSaddle in terms of productivity and versatility. The iSaddle cannot handle squared products and can cope with different formats and papers in the same product.

The DBM700 is able to produce 240pp booklets from 60 sheets at a maximum throughput of 2,000 booklets an hour. This includes those with a squared spine.

The new machine was first introduced in Japan and then made its debut in North America at the Printing United show in Atlanta last month. A demonstration unit has been installed in the UK showroom with a number of demonstrations already taking place for potential buyers. “Customers have been impressed with its speed and ease of operation,” says a spokesman. “We believe that the 700 will be a game changer.”

The machine is controlled through a touch screen using a new GUI which has the same feel as that used on the DC648 and DC618 multi finishers. There is easier access to clear any paper jams, a option to have a four head stitching unit (to produce two up booklets, and the same DKT 200 four-knife trimmer as fitted to the iSaddle, its higher performance saddle stitcher.

The new device also borrows flat belts to manage sheet handling from the higher spec machine. This expands the range of papers that the DBM700 can handle from 64gsm to 52gsm. In two-up mode, maximum throughput is 9,000 booklets an hour.

The unit can be fed from standard collating towers or from a digital sheet feeder for sheets that have been printed in collated order. A Duetto version able to take both digital and litho sheets is available.

Duplo has a number of machines in stock to avoid delays between order and delivery.
