Print4UK has trimmed the time needed to deliver stitched products with the installation of a Duplo DBM600 booklet maker to replace a hand fed KASfold unit. “A run of 1,000 could take one person a whole day to complete,” says 4UK Group CEO Chris Brady. “Now within an hour it’s done. We should have done this ages ago.”
The machine arrived at the start of last month and was swiftly in action, and in time to finish the growing volume of stitched brochures the Enfield business is handling. “We want it to handle anything from short to medium runs, from ten copies to 500-1,000. We have put runs of 2,000 through it. We can do longer runs, quicker turnarounds now.”
The company can now welcome this style of work in line with a strategy towards bigger jobs. Brady has his eyes on investment in a B2 Indigo at some point. The ability to take on larger runs is part of this. “Everything we are doing is gearing us up for the B2 digital market,” he says.
The DBM600 also has the capability of producing A4 landscape products, which the company could not take on previously. The machine at Print4UK has the option of a DSF2200 long sheet feeder, which Brady calls “a no brainer”.
It is proving reliable so far. He explains: “Feeding a wide variety of paper types and weights, the first booklet is always as good as the last. Once set up, the system runs extremely well. It’s easy to use, and our operators love it. The training delivered by Duplo was comprehensive and we were producing live jobs almost immediately.”
The company has previously invested in a B2 Blade cutting table from Duplo, giving Brady the confidence to return to the supplier for the upgrade to its stitching capacity. “We are getting a lot more inquiries about packaging and being able to print a bigger sheet in house would help,” he says.
