A company that has a reputation for hand engraved stationery has introduced automation – and taken to it like a duck to water.
Mount Street Printers specialises in luxury stationery sold through a shop in Mayfair and produced in a factory in Acton. Now that factory has installed a Duplo DC648 multifinisher and describes the machine as “a complete game changer”.
Director Alex Cain says: “We sent a team to Drupa, but they were not looking for a multifinisher as we’ve never been in the market for such a device. But watching the live demonstrations, the ease of use and changeover, the team felt that with the increase in digital work, a Duplo device would fit right in.”
The biggest challenge was to deliver the device to the second floor where Mount Street has its 1,500m2 production floor housing a wide array of specialist finishing equipment as well as digital presses. That did not prove an obstacle to the Duplo delivery team, resulting a device that was ready to run within a few hour.
Cain continues: “Training was great and we’re looking to automate more applications very soon. The automation is a key aspect of the purchase because it frees up our three guillotines and allows the operators more time to do other more manual tasks.”
The DC648 can change settings automatically according to job set up information accessed via an identifying barcode. No manual intervention is necessary to adjust the slitting, creasing and cutting cassettes. The high quality result, says Cain, “matches what we needed in our production room”.
While traditional technologies and values are intrinsic to the business, it has moved with the times. Digital printing is now firmly established and it operates what must be the most polite online inquiry form of any UK printer. Its cherished traditional values have resulted in retention of the monarch’s Royal Warrant as this passed from the Prince of Wales to King Charles.
