Tecnau goes to great lengths for testing

The Italian paper handling specialist can assemble complete lines in a new space added to its factory.

Tecnau has opened a new factory unit in Ivrea to expand manufacturing capacity and to test customer configurations before installation.

The additional building is part of the same former Olivetti complex that includes Tecnau’s Customer Experience Centre where visitors can see the technology in action. But this cannot accommodate the increasing complex configurations that can combine Tecnau and third-party technology operating inline with a digital press.

Jason Seaber, technical sales director of UK distributor IFS, says: “With continuous feed inkjet, some of the solutions can be quite to include perforating, punching and even saddle stitching and sewing. The new building is long enough for application testing of inline configurations.”

The additional space will also be used for R&D, both for Tecnau solutions but also for collaborations with press developers to enable testing go substrates, inks and production processes. “The integrated approach ensures e deliver effective solutions tailored to our customers,” says Tecnau marketing manager Maurizio Gianetto. “The dedicated R&D testing area is where we continue to refine products and explore new ideas to address evolving customer needs.”

This has included a line that includes a Horizon StitchLiner MkV for a customer in Germany. “When a customer places an order for a bespoke line, Tecnau can build the line and test the application before installation,” says Seaber. In the presale process, the customer can put the line for the chosen application through its paces to arrive at a combination of products that has been road tested to minimise the time from installation to operation at a customer.

This was not a problem for Halstan Print, one of the most recent customers in the UK because the Amersham book printer took the line that had been demonstrated during Drupa, including the Revolution 50 cut to stack unit that was launched at the show.
