Retail Print Solutions pushes for growth

Rapid expansion is on the cards for Leicester display printer Retail Print Solutions with investment in Durst and finishing.

Retail Print Solutions in Leicester has installed two Durst large format printers and to cap a £2 million investment has added a new CCM Premier guillotine from Terry Cooper Services.

The investment will provide the platform for the business to grow to £15 million in sales in the next three to five years according to managing director Kevin Boyle. And the current round of investment is paying off.

Before we had the Dursts, we were turning away up to 50% of work requests because we just didn’t have the capacity even though we were double-day shifts,” says Boyle.

“With building works and other purchases, we’re investing approaching £2 million. It was a calculated risk for a company of our size, but we’ve never looked back and the orders are starting to rush in now. And we don’t have to turn them away.”

The Durst as a Rho 312 and a P10 200 HS, which has the ability to print a 1m x 3.2 metre hoarding in one minute, hitting demands for fast turnarounds of display work for the likes of Aston Martin, Chanel. Microsoft, Tesco, Costa and NHS trusts.

Since taking on the Dursts, RPS has won a vacuum cleaner client expected to contribute around £1 million in sales after passing quality assessment tests

A sales office that has been opened in London in order to expand into new sectors. It has its eyes on exhibition graphics, soft signage and a growing volume of work that needs a white.

As well as further finishing equipment the CCM Premier guillotine has taken pride of place. “I grew tired of saying no to jobs that we couldn’t do and I wanted to say yes. So, I reviewed the business and looked at what we needed to do to be able to say yes. Efficiency was where we had to make the biggest changes so we looked at replacing our reel-to-reel press with a reel-to-sheet digital press. That meant production could be streamlined as work could go straight on the guillotine.”

This has had major impact, and will keep pace with demands for faster turnarounds and shorter runs he explains: “We now work 10 times or 20 times quicker. That is huge for us. It is a game changer.”
