Duplo takes the finishing step into B2

After a beta trial, Duplo is releasing its DC20K multifinisher, aiming at meeting the finishing needs of those with B2 digital presses.

Duplo has launched its B2 cutter creaser following a preview at its Celebration of Print open house in May and a successful beta test at The Imaging Centre in Marden, Kent. The greetings card printer has now purchased the device.

The DC20K expands the multi finisher range into B2 printing, specifically to marry up with the growing installed base of B2 Indigo presses, but also for sheetfed litho and inkjet printing.

The B2 sheet is identified through barcodes and slit to feed into a standard DC746 for further cutting, slitting, creasing and perforation. This makes the unit ideal for short run greetings card production.

This is where The Imaging Centre fits neatly into the profile of Duplo’s ideal user. It has been a long term user of the DC multifinisher range and has three other devices to finish cards printed on its three Indigo presses, the latest of which is the Indigo 12000 with value pack.

The investment in the DC20K allows the company to take on longer run work and retain clients that would otherwise have to leave for a printer with litho capacity. The company can now load sheets into the device without having to guillotine jobs to the appropriate size for the standard cutter folder creasers.

Duplo UK managing director Martyn Train says: “We chose The Imaging Centre as the beta site for this new system because of their workflow and the types of jobs they were producing. We believed we could really help them with their finishing bottlenecks with their previous set up. The fact that they purchased the first production ready machine speaks volumes of the time and effort that both our organisations put into the project, but also the technology of the new system.”

The Imaging Centre’s operations director Jessica Short says: “When we purchased the Indigo 12000 to handle longer runs, there was a knock on effect on finishing and fulfilment. We can now cope with runs of 20,000 for a customer so needed to invest our turnaround times. It means that we can keep our relationship with expanding customers as they grow.

“Now we can be competitive with litho for longer, more competitive on price and better on turnaround times.”
