Dominion Print is continuing to spend as it expands capabilities for ultra large format inkjet at its Bradford factory.
It has followed investment in Durst with installation of a Vutek Q5R roll to roll printer 26 years after investing in a Vutek as its first digital press. At that time the company installed an UltraVu 5300. “At the time this was state of the art wide format digital technology,” says director Verity Fox. “With the extraordinary speed and quality, it seemed the right fit to be going back to Vutek after all this time.”
The decision to invest in the Vutek was taken between Fox and her father and company founder Dominic Clark. Unfortunately having taken the time to assess the market and decide on the Vutek, Clark died before it could be installed.
“The Vutek Q5R takes Dominion’s strength in large and super large formats to the next level, raising the bar even further for our ability to provide high end printing at lightning speeds.”
The company has also taken delivery of a Zund G3 XL cutting table, the company’s second, a precision cutter for aluminium profiles for framing and Blackman & White laser Cad cutting system. This amounts to an investment of £500,000 and comes on top of the £1 million on flatbed capacity through the Durst Rho 2500 UV printer along with machinery for finishing the increase in output.
The plan is to continue to target existing markets and customers in construction, retail, events and entertainment with the much enlarged capacity. Output speed on roll printing is doubled to 672m2/hr.
The earlier investment in a new flatbed printer was also a capacity doubling move. As well as the Vutek Q5R, Dominion Print has previously used a Fujifilm Uvistar for 5-metre wide prints and a Reggiani textile printer from the same EFI stable as the Vutek.
As well as increased throughput the recent print investments are delivering improvements in quality. The Vutek prints at 1200dpi using an UltraDrop technology to vary the droplet size and improve detail in shades, for gradients and transitions, sharper text and smaller sizes and improvements to overall clarity of what is printed.
