EBI takes low carbon sustainability pledge

Derby printer achieves carbon neutral and sets sights even lower.

EBI has adopted an ambitious goal to reduce its carbon impact in 2022, reducing the 247 tonnes of CO2e it generated in 2021 by 100 tonnes this year.

Much of this comes through work to make the company carbon neutral in terms of its own operations in collaboration with CarbonQuota.

It is now promoting its sustainability stance branding the initiative as Ebi Integrity as a step along its longer term Net Zero pathway.

“Sustainability matters to our clients, so it matters to us too,” says Luke Thomas, EBI’s business development director. “That’s why we’re making positive changes in both the short term and the long term. For example, in the past five years our PP5 plastic recycling scheme recycled 347 tonnes. That’s equivalent to almost 30 double decker buses.”

Its customers are design and marketing agencies working for major consumer facing brands which are in the front line of carbon reduction efforts. Those consumers are placing a higher value on sustainability in the products they select, some seeking out brands that line up behind sustainability.

Under EBI Integrity, the Derby company has committed to use lower carbon impact materials and processes. It has switched its car fleet to electric vehicles and has installed charging points at the factory.

It explains that it will work with clients to reduce their impacts by recommending material and methods that will cut impacts.

The remaining carbon that the company cannot yet eradicate is offset through Verified Gold Standard schemes. Currently there are three: a wind farm project in India, conservation of high conservation value forest in the Amazon and a forest restoration project in Panama.

EBI has evolved from Easibind, a specialist producer of PVC covered ring binders, into one of the country’s most creative print businesses. It now focuses on intelligent print applications, focused on direct mail. It offers seven print process from screen printing to digital, followed by 40 finishing options.
