To promote the book super centre it launched earlier this year, Where The Trade Buys has named a Swansea photographer as winner of a competition to find a strong book concept. Her prize is to see this idea turned into a printed book.
A Swansea photographer has won a competition for self publishing authors staged by Where The Trade Buys to mark the opening of its book super centre in Dagenham.
The dedicated book production space was opened earlier this year as WTTB expanded the scope of its experience in run of one book production into book for self publishing writers. It had included the thread sewing and hard cover book binding experience from Cliftons into the East London factory along with digital printing perfect binding and different offers on enhancement.
To publicise the additional capability and capacity, the company launched a competition to find a proposal that it would support. That has turned out to be from Rasa Mombeini, a photographer with the idea of helping parents take memorable pictures of their young children.
She has received 140 hard bound copies of her book as the prize and says: “Along with tips for taking the photographs, I want to give parents so advice, for example make sure you’re also in the pictures so that it really is a memory for all the family.
“Photography is the best way to capture every moment of your children’s lives and I hope my book will help people get the best results.”
The book itself was printed on HP Indigo, bound on a BQ470 with the cover produced on the company’s Kolbus DA270 case maker. WTTB also offers layflat and wire bound options as well as limp and hard cover binding.
WTTB CEO Gary Peeling, who was on the judging panel, says that her concept stood out as worthy of publication. We thought it was a really exciting concept and something that would be of use to so many people,” he says. “It also showcases the vast amount of possibilities there are for self publishing, whether it be a novel, a photobook or something like Rasa’s, which gives valuable advice.
“We hope it is a great success for her.”
The book, How to document your family life in pictures, will now be sold through through Amazon and if successful in sales terms will fund a further batch of the books.
