Ultraflex gains Agfa as dealers are shuffled

Media specialist Ultraflex is taking on Agfa’s large format products in the UK as former dealer switches sides.

Ultraflex has become a major reseller for Agfa’s inkjet products following the end of Agfa’s relationship with long term reseller Josero. That company is now teaming up with Fujifilm on higher end inkjet machines.

Ultraflex has been a media supplier with a wide range of different materials for the large format and display sector, including a growing portfolio of environmentally friendly substrates. It stepped into the supply and support of capital equipment with the acquisition in 2020 of Mayday Graphic Products.

Ultraflex managing director Clint Green says: “We have been distributors of print media over many years so this is a logical addition to our product portfolio, especially as Mayday Graphics had lots of experience in the supply of print engines.

“We wanted to move forward with an established brand name in the wide format market, that we trust and have confidence to promote to our customers. Agfa offers us a range of hybrid, flatbed and roll to roll print engines that will suit different requirements and we know that Agfa is highly praised by its customer base.”

Agfa hopes that Mayday’s graphic arts customers will enable it to tap into commercial printers that are planning a diversification into higher volumes of display graphics and packaging.

The deal follows hard on the heels of Fujifilm’s decision to sign Josero to sell the Acuity Prime flatbed printers in the UK. Like Mayday, Josero is a recent acquisition by a materials supplier, in this case Soyang Europe. It had announced a deal to sell the roll to roll Acuity Ultra R2 in the UK in May last year, so expanding this to include Josero on Fujifilm’s flatbed portfolio is a natural progression.

The Acuity Prime range was launched two years ago as Fujifilm developed flatbed printer to set new standards in the sector.

Soyang/Josero group sales director Sarah Winterbottom calls the Prime “the perfect high production, high quality flatbed addition to Josero’s offering”, adding: “It’s a great time for us to be strengthening our partnership, as businesses are looking for versatility, efficiency and quality in a cost effective solution. We can’t wait to start showing our customers what the range can do.”

That will come at the Sign & Digital UK show at the NEC later this month.
