Swanline doubles up on Bobsts

A second large format platen will give the trade finisher additional capacity as ecommerce grows.

Swanline Group, acquired by Zeus Packaging a year ago, has installed a large format die cutting platen and high speed folder gluer at its site in Stone, Staffordshire. Both machines have come from Bobst.

The Visioncut 1.6 includes the Power Register option to cut makeready times and so enables the business to take on shorter production runs. This is Swanline’s second Visioncut 1.6 PR. Power Register is a camera based system to ensure that the sheet is aligned with precision as it enters the platen.

The first was installed five years ago and continues to deliver sheets at the 4,800sph top speed. The platen can cope with a 1,600mm 1,100mm format from 0.75mm to 9mm and both corrugated and solid boards. It is “perfect for creating top notch, shelf ready, luxury and ecommerce packaging” the company says.

The addition of the Expertfold 165 gives Swanline the ability to deliver folded corrugated or litho lam boxes, including crash lock, four- or six-corner and straight line designs and will enable the business to deliver zero fault products to meet a growing demand for ecommerce packaging as a trade-only supplier.

CEO Nick Kirby says: “The demand for ecommerce boxes is growing and is here to stay. These days boxes need to come in almost any size and shape, requiring flexibility and productivity across the supply chain.

“Consumers are calling out for more sustainable packaging and for production to reduce its environmental carbon footprint with less waste across the entire supply chain. This is why we keep on top of the latest technology, investing in newer, bigger and better machines so that our customers don’t have to. Not only for more capacity and greater capabilities and offerings, but to ensure we cut down on our carbon footprint and waste.”

The Bobsts join a Lamina 2200 GL gluer for short run box or displays production, with the ability to produce two jobs simultaneously if format permits.
