Solopress has expanded its initial sustainability steps by enabling carbon offsetting for a greater portfolio of products.
Solopress is building on an earlier sustainability initiative to enable customers to “make this order carbon neutral”. This expands on the Solopress Green range of products that the online printer has deemed to be eco friendly and have been its first dedicated step into sustainability. The Solopress Green products are printed on recycled papers and materials, with production related carbon offset through recognised schemes.
To date this has amounted to 150,000kg CO2e.
Solopress anticipates that this amount will be left behind rapidly as carbon offsetting is expanded to a wider range of products. At checkout customers are able to “make this order carbon neutral” by selecting an environment protection or restoration scheme of their choosing. On offer are woodland protection and tree planting in the UK, provision of drinking water in Eritrea or helping remove plastic from the oceans.
The calculations and work to develop then validate the scheme has been significant, says Solopress managing director Simon Cooper. “This underscores our commitment to sustainable business practices and the environment. Since soft launching the scheme, we’ve been delighted with the levels of uptake we’ve seen. It’s an encouraging vindication of our customers’ willingness to support worldwide efforts to reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
“We believe in providing our customers with the ability to make a positive impact on the environment. This feature empowers them to engage in carbon offsetting when purchasing our products, furthering our collective efforts in the fight against climate change.”
The development comes as the Solopress management team is expanded through the appointment of Paul O’Connor as head of commercial development. O’Connor has been recruited from Helloprint print where he was commercial director for four years and before that had been commercial director for Printing.com. In a LinkedIn statement, O’Connor says: “I’m excited to bring my skills and experience to the table and I can’t wait to hit the ground running to see what amazing things we can achieve together.”
