Second Baumann business seeks protection

On the heels of the guillotine production arm, the handling systems business Baumann Solms has sought the production offered by administration.

Baumann Solms is the second part of the Baumann finishing systems group to seek the protection of the administrator. It follows just weeks after Baumann Perfecta was forced to seek the protection of the courts after a potential sales stalled. It is now undergoing a restructuring process that will set it on a more stable financial footing.

Baumann Perfecta is the operation that produces guillotines from a plant close to Dresden. These are sold under the Perfecta and Wohlenberg brands as well as through Komori as its Apressia machines. Baumann Solms is the business that produces lifts, joggers and other handling systems around the cutting equipment from a plant that is close to Frankfurt. Another part of the business creates filling machines for food processing.

Under German law staff salaries are paid until the end of March. By then it is hoped that a long term solution will be found. The goal of the insolvency proceedings is “a long term restructuring and sale of the company within the framework of a structured M&A process” according to an official statement statement.

The sales process is being handled by Dr Hubertus Bartelheimer from Dr Wieselhuber & Partner under the direction of international legal firm White & Case, led by Dr Nicolai Fischer with associate Fabian Volk and insolvency manager Tobias Schilling.

Sales and service of equipment from the Baumann Solms operation, under Wohlenberg, Baumann or Perfecta brand, is handled by Friedheim International. The UK company did not comment on the situation. The supply of spares and equipment is not being disrupted by the situation.

The ongoing uncertainty around US tariffs has had a major impact on investment in what remains the largest print market in the world.

Baumann also owns Medianetics, an IT developing workflow software for the printing industry as part of its supplies and service business in Germany and Wohlenberg’s perfect binders and three-knife trimmers, which is currently untroubled by what is happening in the cutting parts of the group.
