Pyramid Press has taken delivery of an Horizon StitchLiner MkIV to increase the flexibility of its stitching operations.
The Nottingham commercial printer produces a wide spread of work, printed on a five-colour XL75 and a six-colour RMGT 1050 that was installed in 2022 to replace a B1 Speedmaster and Mitsubishi V3000.
The press was intended to make production of leaflets of offers for a major convenience store chain more efficient thanks to faster makeready and the ability to use one of the print units to overprint information about the destination store. It also produces print for other retail and agency clients.
With the new StitchLiner, the company will be able to feed flat sheets for finishing without the need for folding step.
Director Paul McGuigan says: “We have had Muller Martini lines in our bindery for many years. They have been very reliable. But, it was time to consider what the next investment should be to futureproof the bindery. At the same time jobs coming into the bindery now have more varied run lengths and there is a need to get them out the door faster. We knew it was necessary to invest in a different solution to better address what today’s workload looks like.”
The StitchLiner comes with Horizon’s ICE connectivity which when implemented will provide a remote view of production over connected equipment using a dashboard hosted in the cloud. This also provides Horizon distributor IFS with information about the state of the equipment for maintenance and diagnostic purposes.
Pyramid is part of Willsons Group Services which covers print management, creative design, storage and fulfilment and digital print with plants in Newark and Grimsby as well Nottingham. A Horizon StitchLiner installation at one of these sites has been reliable, giving McGuigan confidence to go ahead. “We know and trust Horizon’s robust build. It will do what we need it to and the ICE software will be something we can utilise in the future.”
