Premier Paper has started to build a creative papers business, signing up with Fedrigoni to supply the MyCordenons range of papers to printers and designers in the UK.
The merchant already supplies Colorplan to this audience and a number of Fedrigoni and other papers through its digital print division. Now it is stepping up to hold stocks of MyBoheme, MyKingdom, MyReef, MyNotturno, MyLeatherlike and MyFlora papers. Premier will offer a sample service as well as next day delivery on these papers.
Fedrigoni Special Papers acquired the Cordenons business and its selection of papers in 2018 at the start of its ongoing expansion strategy.
“We have always supplied a number of Fedrigoni and GF Smith products across the company,” says a Premier Papers spokesman. “This is the next step, holding papers in stock and building a creative papers portfolio.”
The paper manufacturer’s UK operation will handle back selling operations feeding inquiries through to Premier while Premier will be focusing on its own customers, who, like others in print, are recognising that runs are becoming shorter and the ability to offer higher value products printed on non standard papers is becoming important.
The six ranges that Premier will hold at its central Minworth warehouse fit this description. MyBoheme comes in Tradition and Design options. It is an uncoated paper, felt marked and available in four finishes, ideal for luxury packaging according to Fedrigoni. This is the first of the papers that Premier is promoting.
Next comes MyKingdom as a 15% cotton content paper for corporate identity projects and available as Laid, Wove and X-TS variants. The MyFlora paper includes a partially flecked recycled content surface and 10% cotton content with a natural colour palette. MyNotturno is a deep black shade and available at weights between 100gsm and 700gsm.
The coated papers include MyReef offers a selection of pulp dyed colours inspired by the ocean and delivering sandy coloured effects. The MyLeatherlike range is an embossed coated paper inspired by haute couture textiles and aimed at luxury packaging applications.
The Cordenons mill dates back to 1630 making it one of oldest in the world. In recent years it has specialised in producing papers from unusual materials finding applications with luxury brands and those looking for something beyond the ordinary.
