Page Brothers ups capacity with new generation XL106

The UK’s older company in print now has the latest of printing presses as an 18,000sph Speedmaster XL106 will increase capacity at the Norwich printer.

Page Brothers has commissioned a five-colour XL106, replacing a CX102-5-L in its Norwich factory. The new machine comes with the full suite of on press automation tools, is specified to run at 18,000sph and can handle carton board materials.

It represents a significant increase in production capacity and will enable Page Bros to cope with decreasing run lengths more effectively while the extra speed opens up longer runs.

“The XL106 will give us unmatched speed, flexibility, and quality, allowing us to take on larger, more complex projects and deliver them faster and more sustainably than ever before. This expansion isn’t just about meeting our clients’ needs today; it’s about anticipating tomorrow’s demands and positioning ourselves ahead of the curve,” says CEO Alex Tuya.

“The press will allow us to run thicker substrates including some carton boards for packaging so that we have a foot in a growing market, though we do not intend to become a specialist packaging printer.”

The press is also more efficient in terms of energy consumption than the machine it has replaced. It sits alongside another CX102-5-L and a two-colour perfecting Speedmaster. The Heidelberg line up has helped operators switch to the new press even with the larger monitor and Intellistart screen and latest software.

Chief operating officer Spencer Armes says: Our operators will benefit from its modern automation and user-friendly control systems, making their work more efficient and less physically demanding. For our customers, this investment represents a commitment to quality, reliability, and service and the assurance of a print partner ready to grow with them.”

The investment continues the forward momentum since Tuya acquired what is the UK’s oldest print business at the end of 2020. Since then company has invested in a Canon Colorstream for its exam papers business, acquired greetings card publisher Art Angels and at the end of last year, large format printer BD&H Tullford.
