MIS developer Optimus is expanding its Dash system to cover packaging applications, with a launch planned for Drupa.
“Now we can cover everything, cartons and corrugated and it could be used for labels,” says group managing director Nicola Bisset. Dash was conceived as a system to cover all manner of products that digital and commercial printers might produce.
Now it has added a die cut knife database to include all the parameters that a knife and board might cover and a further database to cover shape options. “Our inquiry system can be configured to deal with anything,” she says. “The issue has been to include cutting and the product types themselves.”
A first installation is under way at a customer in Holland and others will follow swiftly. Optimus has a number of customers in Australia that are already producing packaging. As with any MIS, Dash for Packaging will break down the costs of production showing these as the quote is created.
“The advantage of using the process driven Dash approach ensures that any substrate or process can be managed which can also include additional quality assurance validation configured to suit, depending on the environment,” she explains. “Companies that have diversified their product portfolio no longer need multiple systems to manage multiple products.”
Optimus litho customers have started to do this, initially with wide format products and are now looking at the potential for packaging. Bisset adds: “This is only going to increase.
“It is about MIS for any substrates, for any processes. Anything that can be printed can be handled by our system.”
Optimus has expanded its Dash MIS to include coverage for packaging with the same simple to follow interface.
