Mayfield speeds lamination with Foliant

Mayfield Press has boosted lamination to keep pace with demand for fast delivery.

Mayfield Press has installed a Foliant Taurus 530NG laminator to help with requirements to spin jobs faster.

The laminator handles jobs up to 530x750mm, runs at 40m/min on material 115-600gsm. It was supplied by IFS. Until now this work has been through a Vivid Matrix laminator, which lacks the capacity of the more robust machine. The Oxford company also runs a D&K B2 thermal laminator.

Director Damian Roscoe says: “We had a laminator but we needed something faster. We do a lot of short to medium run fast turnaround menu work and we were having to send some of that out. We wanted to be able to keep all of it in-house so we could be more responsive, save costs and eliminate the waiting times.

“We wanted an upgrade on what we had. I spoke with someone who works with one and they told me what a good machine it was. That helped me make the decision.”

And it’s a decision he has not regretted: “It has been running very well and we are much more efficient,” he adds.

Mayfield Press became part of the Print Evolved group in 2021 and has undergone operational changes since, including exchanging work with Print Evolved’s central London operation in Hornsey.

The company’s broad customer base has not changed. It produces books to magazines, wallpapers, retail, promotional print and direct mail, with full finishing services, including Scodix foiling, and mailing. The print operation is split between a pair of Heidelberg XL75 litho presses, a digital operation headed by HP Indigo Canon toner machines with a SwissQPrint Nyala and HP Latex 360 machines for its large format operation. It operates round the clock with more than 75 staff.
