The chairman and CEO of Masterwork and Heidelberg’s largest shareholder Madam Li Li included the Belfast business as one of four UK companies to call in on.
Biopax has welcomed chairman and CEO of Masterwork Madam Li Li to its factory in Belfast, one of four printers on her schedule and the only one in Ireland.
She also visited GPI Bardon, Smurfit WestRock and The Wilkins Group in England, all industrialised packaging companies using Heidelberg presses and Masterwork platens and folder gluers. The short tour was organised by Heidelberg UK and Heidelberg’s largest shareholder was accompanied by Heidelberg UK managing director Ryan Miles, postpress sales manager Paul Thompson, digital and consumable sales manager Peter Smith and postpress product manager Ian Trengrouse. Heidelberg’s group head of postpress packaging Xue Yang also joined the party.
Key to the visit, for Biopax at least, was the operation of the Mastermatrix, the flagship die cutting platen for Masterwork.
Biopax managing director Lee Carson says: “The MasterMatrix has become the cornerstone of our production line and hosting Madam Li Li at Biopax allowed us to share how this world class machinery is driving both quality and efficiency across out operations.”
Biopax was founded by chairman Dr Terry Cross with a goal of producing polyethylene free cartons, wraps and labels for food, beverage and non food sectors. It operates two Speedmaster XL106s with four Mastermatrix platens and two folder gluers from the company. These are used to produce food safe cartons principally for the hospitality sector. It also runs a webfed flexo press for labels and flexible packaging.
Dr Cross adds: “It was a great honour to welcome Madam Li Li to Biopax and to showcase the advanced machinery her factory has produced. Our packaging workflow with systems from Heidelberg and Masterwork reflects our belief in global collaboration within our industry as the key to sustainable industrial progress.”
Masterwork is also active in development of robotics and downstream automation. A workflow platform with close integration to Heidelberg’s Prinect workflow is on the cusp of launch.
“It was quite an honour to host Madam Li,” says Miles. “We chose customers that are really to and support the Masterwork product.”
Madam Li Li herself comments: “Biopax represents the kind of innovation and sustainable ambition that aligns with Masterwork’s values. Seeing our technology in action in this forward thinking facility was both impressive and inspiring. I commend the Biopax team for their commitment to excellence and their vision for a more sustainable future in packaging.”
