Installation of a 3.2 metre wide Tauro inkjet press from Agfa is allowing Wakefield large format printer Leading Edge to keep in front of the competition.
Retail graphics and signage business Leading Edge has gained an extra edge with installation of an Agfa Jeti Tauro S 3.2 metre press giving both additional capacity and extra speed when needed.
The 15-year-old business has recorded strong growth in the last 12 months, increasing sales by £2 million to take the company to overall projected sales of £5 million for this year. The new Agfa press was needed to both ensure that capacity was not a constraint as well as providing further space to grow.
The business employs 42 and has 12 fitting teams across the county. These install the signage and fit out retail units for the likes of Card Factory, Haribo Store and McDonalds.
Matthew Evans founded the business and remains managing director. He says: “We have provided a total signage and internal graphics/POS solution to a number of national high street retailer brands for many years.
“They prefer a total solution and that’s what we are geared up to offer. So, whether we are sending our installation team to up-spec light boxes with LED technology across the UK or sending out service vinyls to individual branches to full external signage and internal POS solutions for a new shop, we can handle it. And I think that the way we are structured to offer flexible support for our clients, helped us to quickly adjust to supplying sneeze screens and Covid POS during the pandemic.”
The Tauro, using LED UV, will cope with both roll material and rigid. Leading Edge plans to run the machine around the clock, making it the preferred press. The new press is capable of matching the output of two older Agfa presses says graphics production manager Andrew Gallagher.
The company also runs Agfa’s Avanti production system. “All the print we used to place on two printers can now be done on the new Tauro and that will increase with the introduction of a night shift,” says Gallagher. “Our plan for the future is all about growth and diversity of product/service offering and we’d ideally like that to be aided by a second Tauro print engine at some stage.”
