Kall Kwik Ealing installs one Duplo, awaits a UK first

The long term Duplo user has the latest multi finisher and is waiting for a new perfect binder from the supplier.

Kall Kwik Ealing has taken delivery of a top of the range Duplo DC648 multifinisher and is awaiting delivery of Duplo’s latest single-clamp binder. This is scheduled to arrive next month, says Warren Leaddley who owns the franchise business.

The company has grown over the years with both booklet makers and multi finishers from Duplo, upgrading as volumes have warranted the investment in additional modules or greater levels of automation.

Its first experience of Duplo was a DC445 creaser in 2012 followed by a handed version of the DBM150 booklet maker. This enabled the business to retain in house work that had previously been put out. And says Leaddley could no longer be put out because “everything is wanted yesterday”.

“We have found over the years that we have had to become more and more responsive, there is not time for any margin of error, so we have to make sure that the kit we have is up to the task,” he explains.

That meant adding a feeder to and then replacing the DBM150 with a DBM350, using the same digital sheet feeder. The creaser was replaced by a DC616 multifinisher in 2019, upgrading this to the Pro version as year later before now replacing the machine with the DC618 and now with the greater automation of the DC648.

Automation has been central to the development of the business. It enables the company to handle more work and to do so with fewer staff. The business cut back during the Covid period and has felt no need to expand the payroll again.

Leaddley has also turned to Duplo for a Multigraf CF375 folder and a PFI Blade B3 cutting table

Its two presses come from Ricoh with a Canon ImageProGraf for large format work and two small foiling machines for embellishment.

Shortly it will add PUR perfect binding to this. The company will be the first in the UK with the latest entry level binder from Duplo. This is currently on the high seas heading for Ealing.

Duplo has designated the single-clamp binder the DPB300. It includes full spine preparation ahead of the PUR glue applicator, but is a headed model. It will be no surprise if Kall Kwik Ealing quickly reaches capacity on the machine.

Perfect binding adds to the applications that can already be delivered, viz brochures, booklets, leaflets, shaped applications and premium embellished work.

“We are as comprehensive as possible for a small printing company,” Leaddley explains.
