Impress Print joins a list of companies investing in the DC648 to increase the productivity of digital printing
Impress Print is the latest company to install a DC648 multifinisher from Duplo. The Walton on Thames printer made the investment as part of an ongoing strategy to keep equipment and technology up to date and to introduce automation.
“It is the first multi finisher we have had,” says managing director Mike Kille. “It has been very good, helping us to streamline where we can.”
The finishing unit has been placed alongside a digital press rather than with other finishing equipment. It means that a single operator can run the press and can then put the work through the Duplo and when it comes off, they can box it ready to go out the door, Kille explains.
The alternative would have been to moved printed sheets across of another of the three buildings Impress occupies in order for finishing.
“With the Duplo we are removing processes and the need to move work around,” he says. The unit will slit, trim and crease sheets ready for packing with a reduced skill requirement compared to operating in a traditional way. This is a large part of the appeal of the multifinisher and accounts for burgeoning sales of the device. Duplo has sold 40 in the last 12 months and could end the year with 50 machines sold in 2025.
As for Impress the attention now turns to the next area of business that is due for improvement or where the business can add services or products. The company already offers litho and digital print for commercial, packaging and direct mail jobs. It has been a leader in sustainability earning Planet Mark recognition as well as becoming a BCorps member. This has also involved investment in solar panels, reducing waste to landfill to zero, switching to electric vehicles across the fleet and eliminating animal products from the consumables it uses to earn certification as a vegan printer.
