The company’s latest sustainability report details how the business is cutting its impact on the world it operates in.
Kodak has hit its own targets for reduction in emissions and in water usage it has announced in the company’s 2024 Sustainability report.
It had set a target to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 56% by 2025 and has been able to tick this off, and also achieved a 31% cut in water withdrawal – mostly at the Kodak Business Park in Rochester – ahead of time. Its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions are significantly down as a result compared to the 2016 starting point. For Scope 1 2024 emissions amounted to 13,034 tonnes CO2e, down from 23,460 tonnes, while Scope 2 emissions dropped for 618,921 tonnes CO2e to 266,805 tonnes in 2024.
This is not the end of the journey. The company is investing to modernise its sustainability programme through investment in platforms and software to “enable more data driven decision making, transparency and efficiency”.
The company highlights the wider impact its products are having, led by Sonora, its process-free plate family which is now in use at more than 6,000 site worldwide where it is instrumental in helping printers become more sustainable. Its inkjet presses, led by the Ultra 520 and Prosper 7000 are using water based inks. This is backed up in the report through testimonials from some of the customers that have adopted the technology.
In terms of waste generated, just 1% ends up in landfill. What cannot be immediately recycled or reused is burned for energy generation. This still leaves more than 8,000 tonnes to go to landfill and a figure the company will be striving to reduce.
Kodak opened up its solvent recovery capability in Rochester to handle third-party waste in 2016 and has more increased volumes handled more than 108% since then.
In his opening to the 44pp report, Kodak CEO and executive chairman Jim Continenza says: “Our sustainability strategy is rooted in the belief that we can make a positive impact on the world while delivering value to our customers and shareholders.
“Sustainability is an integral part of our growth strategy and a reflection of our corporate values.”
