The mid production Versant press can now cope with longer and stiffer sheets thanks to an upgrade being released in Asia and Japan.
FujiXerox has announced upgrades to the Versant cutsheet presses, launching these first in China and Asia Pacific followed by Japan at the end of this month.
The improvements include the ability to handle a broader range of substrates and long sheet capability to bring these inline with other mid production digital presses. A new feeding system has been added to enable this. As a consequence the models become the Versant 3100i and Versant 180i.
The new feeder includes three types of air delivery to separate sheets from the side, to lift the top sheet using a new design of shuttle head and third an air knife to ensure that only single sheets are fed into the press. This extends the range of papers handled from 52gsm to 400gsm and to a maximum of 330x1200mm for single side printing and 330x864mm for duplex printing.
The feeder can take 100 sheets of banner length paper and up to 800 sheets of 864mm-long paper. The existing Versant 3100 and Versant 180 will print sheets to 660mm maximum length and to 350gsm weight.
The company says: “Papers which typically cause stress in paper feeding, such as paper containing concentrated amounts of paper dust, uneven paper, some coated papers and preprint paper for offset printing that uses powder, can now be transported in a stable way.”
Print speed for long sheets has been increased substantially and adjustment time to reset between standard sheets and long sheets is now just a few seconds.
Other specifications remain unchanged: 100ppm throughput on the Versant 3100i and 80ppm of the 180i. Imaging uses a 2400dpi VCSEL laser with an inline full width quality monitoring and correction system that FujiXerox calls Simple Image Quality Adjustment.
In the past, models that have been introduced by FujiXerox find their way to North America and Europe some months later. However, the technology partnership between Xerox and FujiXerox will come to an end on 31 March next year, though FujiXerox will continue to supply Xerox with products after this date. The next day a new company, Fujifilm Business Innovation Corp, will be able to distribute and sell products throughout the world that would have previously been sold through Xerox.
