Folio Print Finishing doubles up on indexing

A year after taking its first step into indexing, the Bristol trade supplier has invested in a second machine.

Folio Print Finishing has installed a second indexing machine less than a year after investing in a first Durrer index cutter following the closure of Monarch Indexing, the UK’s only trade supplier of the specialist service.

The loss of the specialist company left UK customers without a domestic provider of indexing services, forcing them to ship products to the content for finishing. Folio’s investment in a Durrer Rega 3 machine sourced from Monaco, restored an onshore UK service and has proved a success says Folio managing director Andy Bird.

“That machine has been very buoyant since it came in,” he says. “We leaned on the expertise of Lee McCormack from Monarch and have found a good supplier in Monaco, which has now provided a second machine.”

The indexing investment has added a further service to the portfolio of finishing that Folio is able to offer. “We are finding that one of the biggest benefits for us is that we have so many services under one roots we are finding that we can do everything on a job, almost a one-stop shop for finishing,” he says.

Previously customers wanting this style of indexing for directories, appointment books, reference volumes and similar had to move work between different companies, adding to the cost, inconvenience and carbon footprint. Folio in contrast is able to perfect bind and finish limp and case bound books on site. It is also able to move people between the different machines to be as efficient as possible.

“It is working out really well for us. We have been getting customers that have put work with us that would otherwise have gone abroad,” he says. “Our customer list is expanding and people are gaining confidence and putting faith in what we can do. It has been a very successful addition to our range of services.”
