Antalis awards attracts the cream of the crop

More design agencies and printers entered work for the 25th Review Awards resulting in a tough choice among the quality and quantity.

The success of the the Antalis Review Awards, which in its 25th year have showcased the best in design and print, demonstrates “how we are developing our brand in the creative design market”, Antalis national sales director Bruce Munro told the winners and shortlisted candidates in London last week.

“It has been our best year in terms of quality and quantity of entries,” added Stephen Pool, the national director responsible for team of paper consultants who run the back selling operation. “We have seen some brilliant pieces.”

Among them was the Quite Delightful Project which was deemed unsuitable for any of the categories, so received a special commendation of its own. The work, said the judges, was “peerless”. It had been designed by The English Group and printed by Opal Print.

The Best in Creative Print category, restricted to print companies, received the biggest entry and was carried off by Boss Print.

Empress Litho, however, vied with Pureprint and Boss Print to carry off most categories in at the presentation last week on The Yacht London, a reminder of “old style elegance” which is moored on the Victoria Embankment.

Boss Print also headed the Stationery category; Pureprint took the accolades for the Magazine and Catalogue section and Best in Digital. Empress Litho went one better taking three top spots in Corporate Brochures, Recycled Papers and Creative Papers.

The Antalis Awards recognise both design and print produced using its papers. That Cyclus, Olin and Claro grades featured prominently shows that uncoated papers are not losing their popularity, at least for this style of premium print.

Other award winners were: Absolute Ink for Report & Accounts; CPI Colour, product brochures; Moore Print, direct mail; Dayfold, books; Push Print, luxury packaging and Opal Print earned a special commendation from the judges for the Quite Delightful Project which was described as “peerless”

Printers that earned commendations included Gavin Martin Colournet, Benson Group, Taylor Brothers, Emtone, DXG Media, Park Lane Press, Team Impression, A3 Design & Print, Park Communications and Eversfrank Gruppe from Germany.

Comments from the judges covered by the design and the print aspects of the jobs in front of them. The four judges were Roy Killen, Push Print; Kate Simkin, Ted Baker; Rob Riche, Friend Studio and Michelle Aloof, Aloof.
