Bakergoodchild acquires Send DM

As a first step in an ongoing investment plan, Bakergoodchild has acquired neighbouring Send DM to boost capacity and service offered.

Bakergoodchild has acquired Send DM, the first stage in an investment programme that will increase capacity at its main Birmingham site in the coming weeks.

The purchase of the smaller print and mailing house will give Bakergoodchild a second location to act as a disaster recovery site should that be needed. But there is more to the deal than ensuring business continuity for customers of both organisations.

Both are in print and mailing, though Bakergoodchild has a more comprehensive offering including print management, email and digital messaging and hybrid mail. This can now be offered to Send DM’s customer base, expanding sales in that way. Pick and pack is already part of the services offered.

Managing director Paul Brough, who joined Bakergoodchild in August last year with a remit to expand the business, says: “While Send DM is focused on shorter runs than Bakergoodchild, they are able to offer longer runs as well.

“Their staff are very experienced with strong customer relationships. They will continue as Send DM, will remain on the Walsall site and they can build on the range of products and services that we offer rather than just selling direct mailing to customers.”

Equipment may be shifted between the two sites, nine miles apart, in order to optimise workflows and ensure complete back up is possible. And to make way for new equipment which will increase capacity at the main site in the Aston areas of Birmingham. “We have already placed orders for new equipment,” says Brough. “which will start coming in in the few few weeks and months. We have begun to spend money and the first of our investments is an acquisition.”

Bakergoodchild has favoured Xerox technology of late, becoming an early adopter of the Iridesse followed by becoming one of the first UK companies to install the Baltoro cutsheet inkjet press.
