Delga Press has taken delivery of a Diana carton gluing line, its first from Heidelberg and giving it four finishing lines at its Rochester factory.
The Diana Easy investment comes as the company’s online venture Boxable picks up pace. The appeal of the Diana comes both from its ability to handle a broad range of carton sizes and the ease of operation. Speed of set up will help handle shorter runs.
Delga Press commercial director Sam Grist says: “We chose the Diana in particular as it has the ability to produce smaller cartons than our existing equipment. The level of support and training we know we can expect from Heidelberg also factored into the decision. Diana has always had a very good reputation in the industry, so after looking at all the options available to us, we decided that this was best suited to our business needs.”
While the company has a Heidelberg Speedmaster on the floor and has had other Heidelberg equipment previously, this is the first for finishing packaging. The new machine has the technology for fast set up and through DigiSet has software that helps inexperienced operators set up the line correctly. Makeready times across the business will also be cut by enabling lines to be set up for carton styles and sizes to minimise changes.
The company’s recent investments have been focused on being able to produce short run packaging and included the Indigo 12000 adapted for carton boards and Highcon for digital creasing and laser cutting.
This culminated with the launch in June of Boxable, a dedicated website for start up and artisan businesses to order minimum volumes of packaging. This has been built on software from Transeo Media and PackQ which took around ten months to perfect and implement.
Delga has also installed a Scodix Ultra for digital enhancement of packaging this year.
