Delga Group will take delivery of the UK’s second HP Indigo 12000HD, the new higher quality version of the B2 format digital press, at the start of next month.
It will be the first of the higher quality machines to be specified for packaging applications. Delga produces cartons for the entertainment and healthcare industry from its site on the Medway City Estate near Rochester. The investment will result in additional opportunities in personalisation, short run and variable data print for these customers.
The press has been specified with the thick substrate kit to enable it to run 550gsm boards and includes a flood coater to protect the sheet from marking while receiving the treatment that cartons are subject to after packing.
The group has experience of the Indigo technology, having used Indigos at its CSP operation in Aylesford for a number of years, investing in two Series 3 machines last year.
Now the larger factory receives its investment. Rather than the Indigo 30000, designated as its carton press, Delga has chosen the higher imaging capability offered by the HD enhancement. This can address twice the addressable resolution of the standard Indigo 12000 and 30000 models.
Says managing director Ian Conetta: “Short run work has always been a challenge in the printed packaging market space, and short run work with exceptional quality has been almost impossible. Thanks to the HP Indigo 12000HD, we are delighted to say this is now a thing of the past.”
The company is the second to buythe new Indigo in the UK following Falkland Press/Printed Easy which has placed an order for two of the machines. It has already has an Indigo 10000 along with an SRA3 press.

A new HP Indigo 12000 HD will pass the portals of Delga Group</a at the start of April, the first of the high resolution B2 digital presses in the UK with a carton capable resolution. It will enable the printer to cope with short runs, particularly for special editions and luxury presentation boxes.
