Duplo lengthens folding potential

Duplo’s entry level production print folder is now capable of long sheet finishing, with further developments to come.

Duplo has announced its fastest and largest folder to date, the DF1300L. This is intended to partner with the current crop of long sheet digital presses, including those that included additional colours as embellishments. The extended version comes 18 months after the launch of the DF1300.

The new machine will be able to fold sheets up to 648mm long into an A4 trifold leaflet or 4pp A4 landscape, options the company says are being requested as part of a value add approach that can increase margins.

The bench top folder is aimed squarely at a segment reckoned by analysts to be growing at 43% CAGR, that is light production presses able to print at 60-80ppm but with a duty cycle of no more than 300,000 sheets. These are likely to be inplant or studios, or perhaps specialist units focusing on short run instant digital print.

“This sector needs automated and flexible finishing products that complement the wide range of work being produced, but with ease of use and affordability relevant to the target market,” says Duplo International marketing manager Marine Kerivel-Brown

“Something like the new 1300L folder can support where other alternatives finish at SRA2 or have inappropriate friction feed systems.”

It will be running into models from Morgana which has led the market with straightforward creaser folders and which cope with the additional sheet length.

The folder will run up to a maximum of 310 sheets a minute from a 50mm deep feed tray. It offers a number of standard fold types and has a 30-job memory for speed of set up.

It is one of a number of machines that Duplo expects to introduce in coming months. Already announced in Japan are a high speed creaser and a new version of the iSaddle booklet maker, though there is no guarantee that that these products will be introduced in Europe or when.
