“They were strong in sales, we are strong in assets. It makes this a good marriage,” says Scantech sales director Peter Feeder. “We have come together to drive the business in Hastings.”
Equipment from Heathfield is already being moved to Hastings, with the aim of completing the combination either by the end of the year or early in 2019 he says. “It’s about bringing everything under one roof.”
Staff from Heathfield are being offered the chance to move the 19 miles to the new factory. Some have embraced the move, some have decided they do not want to do the journey and there has been some natural wastage, says Feeder.
Scantech has large format print and a Speedmaster XL75 having grown from a repro business in the 1990s. It now offers in addition digital and display print, design and app development and has built an expertise in NFC technology. Berforts has specialised in book printing with a Komori Lithrone SRA1 A37 H-UV sheetfed press and Xeikon 9800 for colour book printing via an online portal. There is also extensive mono digital print and finishing.
This equipment is being moved around in order to accommodate the Heathfield equipment, in particular the XL75. The Hastings factory is in need of some refurbishment and this is being managed as part of the move. “Otherwise all that’s left in Heathfield now is the large format and accountants department,” he says. “We decided that the best way forward was to consolidate on the Hastings site. When everything is in place there, we can sell the Heathfield factory to fund the investment.”
Berforts has been merged with Scantech which will more from Heathfield down to Hastings where Berforts has its factory. The move should be complete by the start of next year.
