Kolbus UK has moved after 40 years in Milton Keynes. It has moved in with Autobox, its subsidiary company in Houghton Regis.
The move coincides with the introduction of a new logo, ending the transition from a company producing book binding technology to one with greater interests in packaging equipment. The previous logo was based on a stylised representation of gathered book sections which is no longer relevant to the ongoing business.
The new logo picks on stylised rollers, reflecting the reshaped business and its focus on box and case making. “We had a new CEO last year who has introduced some huge changes, the shake out from the Muller Martini move has settled down,” says Greg Bird, managing director of Kolbus UK.
The business now has a focus on machinery for packaging production, including a rotary die cutter that was planned for Drupa along with the revamped corporate identity and Excellence in Motion logo.
The development comes with the move of UK sales, spares and office staff to the Autobox site. This was completed at the start of the month with almost no disruption, says Bird. And it is already a measure that makes sense.
The Autobox factory had been where the products are assembled for shipping around the world, while Kolbus UK has handled sales and service, each with a separate focus.
“It had become apparent over the last ten years that the Milton Keynes premises were really too big, so when the lease came up for renewal, it was time to move,” says Bird. There was serious consideration given to keeping the two parts of the business separate, ended by the arrival of Covid-19. The need to keep a lid on spending overrode other considerations.
“It is quickly becoming that this is really the tight decision. It gives security to the business going forwards and it opens the way to having a demonstrate area for the Autobox machines” he says.
Access to the product experts who can become part of online and video presentations to overseas customers. “We are finding there are lots of benefits from being here now. We can be more flexible, there are lots of other synergies. This is the right place for Kolbus UK to be,” says Bird.
