Vale Labels leads with latest HP Indigo installation

Wellington company has continuing a long standing relationship with Indigo by becoming the first in the UK with the latest version of the label press.

Vale Labels has become the first in the UK with the HP Indigo 6900, the latest generation of its narrow web digital press.

It continues a long standing relationship between the family owned Somerset business and HP, stretching back more than ten years. As demand for its services and short run batches has grown, Vale has added subsequent versions of the Indigo web press, culminating in the press which was launched at the start of the year.

CEO John Riches says: “The new Indigo 6900 has allowed us to offer even more choice to our ever increasing customer base. The increased machine speed creates spare capacity for us, coupled with colour consistency and automated quality controls. It has allowed us the confidence and opportunity to take on a greater variety of projects while maintaining our incredibly high standards.”

The company’s Indigo journey began with a WS2000 in the early 2000s, moving to a WS4500 in 2010 and replacing that with a WS6800. Each step has increased capacity and capability for the business. The company also runs an AB Graphics Digicon finishing line.

The new version of the press has a more powerful Rip, a tight integration with Esko’s packaging applications and the options to print ElectroInk silver and brand protecting yellow and blue inks which respond to UV light. The Indigo white ink has also gained extra opacity.

HP Indigo ran four beta sites to put the new press through its paces before releasing the press for commercial sale in recent weeks, leading to installations across the globe. The Indigo remains the best selling digital label press, but with the introduction of a growing number of inkjet and hybrid presses, this position is starting to be challenged.
