The Molesey company installed a Heidelberg Versafire CP as its first digital press then followed up with a Vivid Matrix laminator and Magnum MC35A for creasing and perforating.
“After we installed the digital press, we noticed a shortfall in our laminating capability,” he says. "We had been sending lamination out and despite being finished overnight, this was not fast enough. Now the laminator is running every day.”
The chosen machine is Vivid's Matrix 530 duplex laminator with an Omniflow deep pile feeder to cope with the 700mm long banner sheets that the digital press can handle. The decision came after asking around and investigating options for a newcomer to in-house laminating.
Now, says Fountain, the company is producing an ever increasing amount of over foiling. “It’s suited to fast turnaround short run products like business cards or greetings cards,” he says. Experience reveals the niches and tricks that are associated with enhancing these products, he adds.
The company has a well equipped finishing area for litho work including Cylinder for creasing. The digital has moved to Magnum crease, but folding and stitching remain with litho equipment. “It’s where we have an edge. Because all our finishing is for litho work, stitching and three-knife trimming is delivering a sharp fold and cuts.”
